Department of Geology
Department of Geology belongs to Institute of Ecology and Earth Sciences, Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of Tartu.
The mission of the Geology Department is to provide high-quality Geology Education and to promote Geological Sciences in Estonia, and to benfit for society by translating the implications of research through outreach and service.
Department of Geology at the University of Tartu is the only institution in Estonia which offers both the classical geological education and full study programs in Geology at BSc, MSc and PhD levels.
The Geology Department focuses on research on Planet Earth including a diversity of topics dealing with the evolution of the biosphere, geosphere, and hydrosphere. Department faculty and students conduct research in geochemistry, geomorphology, geophysics, hydrology, impact geology, paleontology-stratigraphy, quaternary geology, sedimentology and tectonics, most of which are strongly field based.
Geology is a capital science to begin, as it requires nothing but a little reading, thinking, and hammering.
